I grow daylilies in my gardens. This is a giant among them. The blooms are easily eight inches across and are this bright cadmium, and lemon yellow color. I enjoyed painting the pollen on the stamens and the light and shadow on this magnificent blossom. This painting show the entire life cycle of this daylily: this and the next day's bloom, next week's bloom and a seed pod forming. The blossom is proudly open only one day then rapidly shrivels and droops. Daily deadheading keeps the lilies looking beautiful, a task I enjoy.
This oil painting is 47" x 72" and makes a striking impact in a room with a high or vaulted ceiling.
